Open Rehearsal...... Actually!   Choirs are looking for new singers....and non singers!

Actually Gay Men's Chorus

Actually Gay Women’s and Actually Gay Men’s Choruses will be holding an ‘open rehearsal’ on Thursday, April 17.

The choirs are staging the event to give anyone interested in joining a singing group or chorus, or anyone who has not had the opportunity to hear either choruses, the chance to see and hear what they do.

Perhaps you've just not been around at any of our performance dates or couldn't afford to go to one of our concerts. This is a great opportunity for you to hear us close and live.

On the evening there will be lots of information available about joining either chorus – no singing experience is necessary – we like to give everyone a chance!

We're are also looking for non-singing members as well to help in any of our teams such as PR/marketing, fundraising, production, lighting, helping out at rehearsals, the list goes on and on.  The choirs always need the help of skilled members, or volunteers if singing is not for you.

If you are thinking about joining a singing group or chorus, or want to be involved in a flourishing community group then this is a great opportunity to see and hear what we do, and meet some of the members of both choirs.

We’re a sociable bunch of people from all walks of life, who have had a lot of fun together over the years, and have even more planned in the coming years (Watch this space!)

Actually Gay Women's ChorusThe Actually Choruses are very music focused, and our repertoires are very varied. We give people the opportunity to do, (and discover they enjoy), pieces of music they would never have imagined singing.

If you just want to come and have a listen, you're very welcome also.  All we ask is for a donation on the door – whatever you can afford, which will go to Actually CIC to help us continue to grow, giving more of you the opportunity to get involved in the organisation, and enjoy that wonderful tonic: singing!

If you can’t make it, or just want more information about membership, non singing membership, volunteering etc, then drop us an email:

Actually Gay Women's Chorus and Actually Gay Men’s Chorus will be opening our doors to you at 7.50pm, Thursday, April 17 at St Andrew’s Church, Waterloo St, Hove. We'll be done by about 9pm.

Actually CIC is a not for profit Community Interest Company, registered in England No. 06845768

Christmas cannot really start without our traditional annual production of ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’, which took place on Monday 23rd December. This event was a real highlight of the festive season. It was a fun evening with both traditional and more unusual musical choicesfeaturing Actually Gay Men's Chorus and Actually Gay Women's Chorus. Taking place on a night of storms and gale force winds the show was a total sell-out.  Thank you to our supporters for braving the weather and coming to enjoy with us carols and seasonal music. Both choruses loved the evening and are looking forward to singing both separately and together in 2014.  Happy New Year to everybody.

What has been happening lately ...

Actually Gay Women's Chorus  joined up with the city's other LGBT choruses at St Mary's Church Kemptown for the World Aids Day Concert on 1 December. What a splendid experience it was to be singing in such a wonderful church, packed with supporters of the cause with the glorious singing reaching for the rafters. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and very interesting to hear the other choirs performing at the same event.  All the choirs sang wonderfully but it was gratifying for AGWC to be specially mentioned by GScene in its review.

The Spring Term

The repertoire is carefully selected and arranged for female voices singing together.  Rehearsals are held Upstairs at the Bulldog kindly sponsored by Dean Holmes, owner.  Please arrive by 7.50 to give you time to buy a drink and then come upstairs ready to start singing at 8 o'clock.

What else is happening in the Gay World?

With Spring coming and the first Gay Marriages in Brighton already booked, let us remember gay people in other countries who are not so free.  In India homosexuality is once again illegal;  in the West Indies and Uganda gay people are vilified continually;  in Russia Putin has instigated a process of persecution.  There are many other places where it is unsafe to be openly gay.  The picture above shows a rather witty protest gift of Russian Dolls made for Putin depicting some celebrity protesters against what is happening in Russia.
